GSAT 6A is a satellite is launched to support the GSAT 6 satellite which launched in August 2015 by ISRO. GSAT 6 satellite launched to improve the communication system, now with the GSAT 6A launch the communication will be better. As two satellite were used in the communication system, so the communication will be two-way communication. The first satellite GSAT 6 launched at the cost of ₹ 269 Crore and the second satellite launched at the cost of ₹ 147 Crore. In order to operate communication system by these satellites a 6-meter (20 ft) unfurlable S-band antenna which is similar to the one used on GSAT-6 has used. The size of S-Band antenna used in GSAT 6A is 3 times more in comparison with another satellite. Hence GSAT 6A will be more capacitive. As this satellite will provide mobile communication to India through multi-beam coverage

The 1st orbit raising maneuver for GSAT-6A was carried out successfully on 30th March 2018 by firing the Liquid Apogee Motor(LAM) for 2188 seconds from 09:22 AM IST. The 2nd orbit raising maneuver was carried out at 10:00 AM on 31st March 2018. As the satellite was on-course for its 3rd and final orbit raising maneuver on 1st April 2018, Communication was lost with the satellite. Efforts by ISRO are on to re-establish communication with the satellite

> Delhi upgrades to Bharat Stage VI fuel norms, two years before the rest of India

Delhi on Sunday became the first city in the country to implement the highest emission standards Bharat Stage VI for its vehicles. State-owned oil companies began supplying Bharat Stage VI fuel at existing prices at their 391 petrol pumps in the city from Sunday, PTI reported.

In November 2017, when Delhi and neighbouring states experienced dangerous pollution levels, the Centre had decided to advance the implementation of Bharat Stage VI norms in the city by two years to April 1, 2018. The government also asked oil firms to consider introducing the BS-VI norms to other parts of the National Capital Region from April 1, 2019.

India has followed the Bharat Stage IV norms since April 2017, and is scheduled to switch to Bharat Stage VI in April 2020. In January 2016, soon after the Paris climate change conference, the government had decided the country would skip Bharat Stage V norms, and move straight from Bharat Stage IV to Bharat Stage VI four years before the earlier 2024 date.

State-owned Indian Oil Corporation said consumers will not have to pay extra for the cleaner fuel, even though oil companies have invested heavily to produce it. The companies will work on a mechanism to recover their costs after the whole country moves to Bharat Stage VI, said IOC’s Director (Refineries) BV Rama Gopal.

The refineries currently producing the cleaner fuel include those in Mathura, Panipat, Bina and Bhatinda. About Rs 183 crore was spent on the Panipat refinery alone to produce Bharat Stage VI fuel, PTI reported.

The latest grade fuel will help reduce emissions of particulate matter by 10%-20% in existing cars and two-wheelers, but will help even more after vehicles have Bharat Stage VI-compliant engines, Gopal said.

Europe already uses the Euro VI emission norms, while much of India was still covered by BS III norms until the introduction of BS IV this year

The Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award for 2018 is being awarded to Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma for her genre-defining successful movies. The 29-year-old actress is being widely revered for breaking new grounds as a film producer, along with her brother Karnesh Sharma.

Their company Clean Slate Films began their production journey with the hugely successful NH10.

At the age of 25, when she was at the peak of her career as a superstar, she became the youngest producer ever with a commitment to quality and desire to make entertaining cinema that pushed the content envelope.

Given that the three home productions of Clean Slate Films have won applause from critics and movie buffs as well as become success stories, the Dadasaheb Phalke Foundation has decided to honour her contribution.

Anushka along with her brother Karnesh have also empowered young talent by giving them big-ticket breaks in the industry as directors, musicians, composers, technicians, etc by backing and believing raw talent.

Their first three productions: NH 10, Phillauri and Pari showed their maturity in dabbling with three different genres - thriller, romance and horror with a distinct and differential content pitch for audiences.

In fact, the recent outing Pari, which received mixed reactions from critics, is all set to get a Tamil remake.

“Pari became a success because of its script and the willingness of a superstar to take a huge risk to back content that was aimed at redefining the horror genre in India. Everyone has taken notice of this gutsy decision. Pari will soon have a Tamil remake. Quality horror stories work in this market and the producers here have loved Pari. The offer on the table is a big one too and only adds to the revenue of Pari. An announcement is expected to happen as soon as the deal is locked. It is a huge success for Anushka,” a source confirmed.

The film also got a Russian release, becoming the first ever female-led film from India to open in the country.

Ranveer's acting as Khilji in 'Padmaavat' has been hailed as 'outstanding' and 'path-breaking' and both critics and audiences have unanimously credited him for giving Bollywood one of its most iconic villains of all time.

"We take immense pleasure to inform you that you have been finalised for The Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award 2018 for the memorable role for the Padmaavat," the Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Award committee wrote to Ranveer announcing his award

This is already the third Best Actor award that Ranveer has picked up for his stand out performance in 'Padmaavat'.

India’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) in higher education up by 0.7%

Number of foreign students studying in the country shows only marginal improvement, from 45,424 in 2015-16 to 47,575 in 2016-17
The country’s Gross Enrolment Ratio or GER in higher education has registered an increase from 24.5% in 2015-16 to 25.2% in 2016-17, according to the latest edition of the All India Higher Education Survey (AIHES) launched by Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar on Friday.

GER is a statistical measure for determining the number of students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate and research level studies within the country and is expressed as a percentage of the population.

Although India aims to attain a GER of 30% by 2020, it’s still much behind countries like China, which, currently, boasts an enrolment ratio of 43.39%. USA’s GER is 85.8% and Pakistan’s is 9.93%.

There were a total of 864 universities in the country last year compared to 799 in 2015-16. According to AIHES of 2016-17, Tamil Nadu has the highest GER in the country at 46.9%, which is higher than the national average. Bihar’s poor show continues with just 14.9% of its eligible population (in the age group of 18 to 23 years) pursuing higher education.

As has been the case in the past, states in south India have higher college density, which is defined as the number of colleges per lakh eligible population. Puducherry has, on average, 549 students enrolled in each college. This is followed by Telangana with 483 students in each college and Karnataka with 381. The college density in the top three states is 49 in Puducherry, 59 in Telangana and 53 in Karnataka.

Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, on the other hand, are at the bottom of the pile with seven, eight and 11 colleges, respectively for every one lakh students in the state.

At a time when Indian Institutions are competing to figure in world rankings, there hasn’t been much improvement in the internationalisation of Indian education. There is a marginal improvement in the number of foreign students —from 45,424 in 2015-16 to 47,575 in 2016-17 — studying in the country. Of the total foreign students, 31,779 are men and 15,796 are women.

Gender Parity Index (GPI): India registered its best performance on the GPI in last seven years — 0.94 in 2016-17 from 0.86 in 2010-11GPI is calculated as quotient of number of females by number of males enrolled. GPI equal to 1 indicates 1, value less than 1 indicated disparity in favour of males. In Seven states — Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, J&K, Nagaland, Sikkim and Kerala — women in higher education have outnumbered men
